first_imgCeltic boss Brendan Rodgers has insisted that Dedryck Boyata is fit, despite the defender having claimed injury had prevented him from playing. The centre-back has been at the centre of controversy after his agent criticised the club, saying that promises had been broken when a bid from Fulham was rejected immediately. His representative also claimed that several other clubs were interested in signing him.Boyata was not part of the Celtic squad that travelled to Greece and, after reports that he was refusing to play for the club emerged, he denied he had downed tools. He told Belgian website “When I hear I’ve refused to play since I came back from vacation, it’s wrong. “Last Thursday, I hurt myself when I slipped in training and I held my leg immediately. “The physio saw it and examined me right after the session. I put ice for 30 minutes on my leg and, the next day, I specified I had pains.”However, speaking to BT Sport ahead of the AEK Athens match, Rodgers said there was no fitness issue.“Dedryck is fit but he’s not here with us,” he said.  “We’ve created a great team spirit over the years and the boys who are here are our concentration and despite whatever reasons players miss games we always have to find a way to get a result”.last_img
