first_img March 18, 2008  Box Score    PENSACOLA, Fla. – After a 1-0 pitching duel in game one, the Argos erupted for 12 runs in the first four innings of the second game of Tuesday night doubleheader. Gregg Burkel opened the scoring with a leadoff home run in the second inning, and his teammates followed with three more runs in the inning to open up the game. Starting pitcher Shane Greene pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up only one run to help the Argos earn a split in the doubleheader.West Florida, now 13-17 on the season, pounded out 15 hits en route to the 14-1 victory. After the Burkel home run in the second, Jackson Woodard singled and Jimmy Boswell walked. Then Kyle Andrews reached on an error, and Steven Bingert drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Greg Pron followed with a two run double. In the third inning, the Argos put together five hits for four more runs. Singles by Scott Beckwith and Gregg Burkel opened the inning. Then, Jimmy Boswell and Brandon Brewer had RBI singles, and finally Greg Pron capped off the inning with his third RBI of the game.Lyon College scored a run in the fourth inning without a hit, as two walks and a hit batter loaded the bases, and then a groundout plated one run. West Florida then came back with four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, as they took advantage of four walks in addition to singles from Burkel and Bingert. The Argos added two more runs in the sixth inning on an RBI single from Craig Westcott, and a bases loaded walk to Bryan Nelson.Gregg Burkel led the Argos with three hits and three runs, including his third home run of the season. Kyle Andrews scored four times for the Argos, while Greg Pron drove in three runs with three hits. Jimmy Boswell scored twice and drove in two runs, while Westcott, Woodard, and Bingert each had two hits. Shane Greene was the winning pitcher, improving to 3-2 on the season, and combined with Todd Stannard and Harrison Szuch to allow only five hits and one run.The two teams were scheduled for a single game on Tuesday and a single game on Wednesday, but threat of severe weather forecasted for Wednesday forced the coaches to make a decision to change to the doubleheader Tuesday night. The next games for UWF will be a Friday and Saturday three game series with GSC opponent North Alabama. The games will be broadcast on Stretch Internet.
