first_imgUWF Prepares for GSC Series Against No. 11 West Alabama Jon Sintes (Photo by Bill Stockland) PENSACOLA, Fla. – The West Florida baseball team will face No. 11 West Alabama in a series with the two top teams in the Gulf South Conference East Division this weekend on Saturday and Sunday.  The Argonauts, second place in the GSC East, head into the series 25-15 overall and 5-4 in GSC play, while the first place Tigers are 23-9 overall and an undefeated 8-0 in conference play.UWF is coming off a two-game sweep at North Georgia in a mid-week series, winning 10-5 on Tuesday night and outlasting the Saints 5-4 in 10 innings on Wednesday afternoon.  The Argonauts have won two of their three GSC series this year, taking two of three each from Montevallo and West Georgia at home and falling in two of three to North Alabama on the road.West Alabama had a 12-game win streak snapped on Wednesday in a 7-6 extra inning loss at Auburn Montgomery.  The Tigers have gone undefeated in GSC play, sweeping series from Alabama-Huntsville, Montevallo, and Valdosta State.West Florida right-hander Kevin Johnson (Pensacola, Fla./Alabama Southern C.C) and West Alabama first baseman Rob Dahlberg are the reigning GSC East Division Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively.As of the beginning of the week, Johnson and the UWF pitching staff have posted the best team ERA in the GSC East at 3.84.  Johnson, Kyle Ramsey, and Jon Sintes have combined to claim five of seven GSC East Division Pitcher of the Week awards this season.  Ace reliever John Church leads the GSC in ERA at 1.41 and has struck out a team high 65 batters in 51 innings, including a nine-strikeout performance our of the bullpen on Wednesday.Fans can follow all of the action through a live audio broadcast and live stats online at  Saturday’s doubleheader is set to start at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday’s single game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.Print Friendly Versioncenter_img Sharelast_img
