In the period from January 26 to 29, the Valamar Diamant Hotel simultaneously hosts as many as 12 sports clubs from many European countries, reports Valamar.Namely, two international sports tournaments are taking place in Poreč at the same time, which will gather a hundred professional athletes: the handball tournament “Memorial Darko Pupovac”, which is traditionally held every year at this time, and the indoor soccer tournament “2. Winter Cup “. “Hotel Valamar Diamant is highly valued in the sports world for its excellent conditions for fitness training of athletes. In addition to comfortable accommodation and excellent nutrition, it offers athletes a polyvalent sports hall within the hotel, indoor pools and fitness, aerobics and wellness center. Valamar Diamant also hosted the handball teams of the 21st World Handball Championship (Brazil, Denmark, Egypt, Norway, Saudi Arabia and Serbia) and the teams of Tunisia, Algeria and Russia during the President’s Cup. ” said Davor Brenko, vice president of sales and marketing at Valamar Riviera. In addition to the home team, Valamar will host teams from Austria, Hungary, Belgium, Slovakia, Slovenia and France in just three days. “Last year, he was chosen for the preparations by the multiple champion of Hungary and one of the best European handball teams – Telekom Veszprem and our most trophy-winning handball club PPD Zagreb. The destination itself and the top service in the hotel delighted many so much that they come back to us regularly, not only for business, but also privately.. ”Brenko points out.In addition to the multipurpose sports hall, the Valamar Diamant Hotel offers a state-of-the-art fitness center with more than 40 Technogym equipment. Also, since the autumn of last year, the Valamar Diamant Hotel has become the first hotel in Croatia to introduce a certificate Healthy Meal Standard, which targets guests with specific nutritional needs, habits and desires, and especially athletes. It is still possible, but without a strategy at the State level there is no long-term success. This is a positive example of how one can succeed in spite of everything and how he had a great opportunity and potential to develop sports tourism, but this is unfortunately only the success of an individual, in this case Valamar, and not that it is strategically and planned at the state level. . It’s more like it was stopped as planned. Of course, we are talking about Valamar, which has logistical, financial and accommodation possibilities and is forced to invest on its own in order to extend its tourist season. And what about others? It all comes down to certain proactive individuals as organizers of sporting events which is not the result of a strategic and long-term vision or development. So, as in everything without strategic and planned development, there is no long-term success. Everything is focused on cities and counties that do not have a vision or strategy for the development of local sports. The biggest misconception is that sports tourism is tied only In addition to football, there is no opportunity in small sportsThe development of sports tourism is not based only on football, it is an opportunity for “small” sports. Here is just one plastic example… There are currently over 50 million runners in Europe and the number of runners is growing day by day. We are talking about amateurs, not professionals, who run marathons, and most often they are business people who generate over 9 billion Euros of revenue each year to hotels, carriers and race organizers. Smart enough. Sport and tourism have always gone and will always go together, and every event, whether small or large is just a plus and an additional cube in the mosaic of sports tourism development. As Davor Brenko points out, success and performance levels generate tourist arrivals on a private basis, ie we turn business clients into private ones. The answer to the question of how to extend the season through the pre- and post-season is simple: Content, content and content. Sports tourism is certainly one of the elements and recipes for extending the season, but like everything else – we have to deal with the development of sports tourism.Golf tourism development: Yes or no?There has been a debate for years whether golf tourism should be added to our tourism. Unfortunately the debate is going in the wrong direction. It is not at all questionable whether we need golf courses, we absolutely need them, the only question is in which locations and how to fit it into a complete tourist product. Of course, golf tourism should be viewed through the prism of additional services and values, and not as the main motive for coming. But while we’ve only been thinking and talking about it for ten years, the competition isn’t sleeping. In fact, the competition has already introduced tens and hundreds of changes as we talk and talk. What we need 10 years for other countries to launch in a year. And here lies one of the biggest problems – realization and speed in following trends.Photo: Davor Rostuhar / Source: CNTBDoc. dr. sc. Dražen Čular from the Faculty of Kinesiology in Split, at this year’s 2nd International Congress of Sports Tourism, pointed out that sports tourism has no alternative, given the resources, potential and international recognition of Croatian athletes. It is sports tourism that needs to be recognized as the most strategically important form of tourism in Croatia and intensively developed in the future. It is necessary to find models and encourage product development in the field of sports tourism. We have everything, but again we have nothing. We have enough experts in all spheres from medical to marketing, we are a sports nation, we achieve top sports success, we have a great climate, we are unique through our diversity… Of course there are positive examples, mostly in Istria, but the general picture and conclusion is – there are pictures, no tons.See more about sports tourism at: LOUD THINKING: SPORTS TOURISM IN CROATIA – THERE ARE PICTURES, BUT NO TONE.
